MY BACKGROUND

Archaeology Outreach Youth Program

I founded Archaeology, Can You Dig It? in 2009 in my hometown of
Columbus, Ohio. By that time, I had worked as an archaeologist for many years, in many different states across the country. I'd quickly realized that almost none of the other archaeologists I'd worked with looked like me—in fact, I'd only encountered seven other African-Americans in the field of archaeology during that time. I realized that if I were to truly make a difference in my chosen field, I needed to introduce kids of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures to anthropology and archaeology—disciplines that tell the story of humanity as a whole and that truly benefit from having students from diverse backgrounds, with a variety of perspectives. I also needed to make it easily accessible to schools and community groups of all kinds. And so ACYDI, a fully-mobile archaeology outreach program, was born!

Since 2009, we've worked with thousands of kids, bringing our programs to schools, summer
camps, libraries, rec centers, Scout groups, and other community groups like Jack and Jill to open up the fascinating world of archaeology to children everywhere. We've presented both in-person and virtually. We've led sessions with kids from across the country, from Sacramento, California to our home base of Columbus, Ohio.

And we've done it all with a keen understanding of the importance of providing quality, engaging programs. Like you, we place the utmost value on quality education. When you hire us to present programs, you can be sure that your students and children receive first-rate, tried-and-true educational experiences and learning opportunities. I hold a B.A. in Anthropology/Archaeology, have over 16 years of experience working in the field of archaeology, have taught kids in traditional school settings, have worked in children's museums as a science educator (and managed a satellite museum myself), and have collaborated with colleagues from UC Berkeley, the Ohio History Connection, and the Society of American Archaeologists. I ensure that each and every program is both educational and fun, and that each and every client is satisfied with our product.

Today, it is vital that all children have access to meaningful educational and cultural experiences. Archaeology, Can You Dig It? aims to supplement traditional schooling by
introducing children to anthropology, archaeology, and chemistry concepts in an engaging way. If you are interested in learning more about what we can offer, please reach out to us! We look forward to working with you to develop the perfect program for your school, Scout group, library,

or rec center!
